It’s TV’s biggest week of the year (next to sweeps, of course) and the top actors and actresses of the small screen are all vying to win a 2010 Primetime Emmy Award.

Will Damages‘ Glenn Close take home the award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama for the third year in a row, or does Emmy newcomer, Connie Britton, stand to take home the prize? Will 30 Rock actors sweep the comedic categories again, or will Fox’s comedy, Glee, cash in on its 19 nominations?


A three-time Emmy award winner, Tony Shalhoub is nominated for Best Comedy Actor. Tony has been nominated for eight consecutive years in the same category for Monk.
Actor Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory is nominated for Best Comedy Actor. Although The Big Bang Theory did not pick up any nominations for the show as a whole, this will be Jim’s second nomination for an Emmy.
Actor, writer, and comedian Larry David picked up his second nomination for Best Comedy Actor for Curb Your Enthusiasm. Since the show’s debut in 2000, Curb Your Enthusiasm has been nominated for more than 24 Emmys.
Alec Baldwin has won Best Comedy Actor for the past two years with his role on 30 Rock. Alec will have another opportunity to take home an Emmy with yet another nomination for this category!
Amy Poehler is nominated for Best Comedy Actress on Parks and Recreation. This is Amy’s second Emmy nomination -– she previously was nominated for her work on Saturday Night Live.
Bryan Cranston has previously won two Emmys for Breaking Bad which premiered in 2008. Nominated for Best Drama Actor, Bryan won in this same category in 2009!
Comedian Steve Carrell is nominated for Best Comedy Actor for his role as Michael Scott on The Office. This is Steve’s fourth Emmy nomination in this category.
Connie Britton from Friday Night Lights is nominated for her first Emmy in the Best Drama Actress category. Friday Night Lights has been on since 2006, but this is Connie’s first Emmy nomination.
Edie Falco is nominated for the first time as Nurse Jackie in the Best Comedy Actress category. Although Edie has won previously with The Sopranos (three times!), this is the first time Nurse Jackie met Emmy qualifications (it missed the window last year).
Glee’s teacher, Mr. Schuester -- played by Matthew Morrison -- is nominated for Best Comedy Actor. This is Matthew's first Emmy nomination, but he has a lot to celebrate – Glee was nominated 19 times.
Glenn Close is nominated for Best Drama Actress for Damages. Glenn has previously won in this category for Damages in 2008 and 2009!
Hugh Laurie is nominated for his fifth time as House in the category of Best Drama Actor. House has been on the air since 2004!
January Jones from the hit show Mad Men is nominated for her role as Betty Draper in the category of Best Drama Actress. This is January’s first Emmy nomination!
Jon Hamm from Mad Men is nominated for his third year in a row for Best Drama Actor. Along with his role on Mad Men, Jon is also nominated for a guest spot on 30 Rock!
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is nominated for Best Comedy Actress for The New Adventures of Old Christine. Since 2006, Julia has been nominated every year in this category, and she even won in 2006!
Julianna Margulies from The Good Wife is nominated for Best Drama Actress. The Good Wife is nominated for a total of nine Emmys this year, and Julianna has received a previous Emmy win and multiple nominations from her work on ER!
Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights is nominated for Best Drama Actor. This is Kyle’s first Emmy nomination for Friday Night Lights, which happens to come with the show's six nominations this year.
Kyra Sedgwick is nominated for her fifth consecutive year as Best Drama Actress. Kyra plays Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on The Closer, which has been on TNT since 2005.
Lea Michele is nominated for Best Comedy Actress for her role as Rachel Berry on Glee. Although Glee is nominated over 19 times, this is Lea’s first nomination!
Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is nominated for her role as Olivia Benson in the category of Best Drama Actress. In 2006, Mariska took home an Emmy for this same category!
Matthew Fox is nominated for his first Emmy award thanks to the series finale of Lost! Matthew is nominated for Best Drama Actor for his role as Jack Shephard.
Michael C. Hall, better known as Dexter, is nominated for Best Drama Actor. This isn’t Michael’s first Emmy nomination though, he has previously been nominated for Best Lead Actor in 2008 and 2009.
Tina Fey is nominated for four Emmy’s this year, including Best Comedy Actress for 30 Rock. Tina has previously won in this category.
Toni Collette is nominated for the United States of Tara for Best Comedy Actress. Last year, Toni won this category!
