Rahul wows in BEFORE THE RAINS
Santosh Sivan's BEFORE THE RAINS opened to a thunderous applause in New York and Los Angeles recently. The film starring Rahul Bose, Nandita Das and Linus Roache tells the story of fatal culture clash, imperialist entitlement and the forbidden passion between master and servant. Set in pre–independent era of India Santosh Sivan's true to life venture succeeds in bringing out the raw passion and emotion on screen.
Rahul Bose's performance in Santosh Sivan's BEFORE THE RAINS has wowed not only the international audience but also the critics. In fact the film finds a place of pride in the snobbish New York Times. Movie reviewer Stephen Holden of NYT writes that the film has some of the visually striking scenes beautifully photographed in the location of Kerala.
Praising Rahul Bose's performance the review mentions Rahul's character as, ''The movie's most compelling figure, the unfailingly loyal T. K. (Rahul Bose), who is instructed to violate native customs in a desperate cover–up. A stoic, taciturn man who loves his boss too much, he is a lost soul who has foolishly imagined he could keep one foot in the tribal world and the other in the modern.''
